Welcome and Announcements

*Call To Worship

Leader:  Listen! Listen for a messenger from God.  The way is being prepared for Christ’s coming.

People:  We are here to listen for a word from God.  We have gathered to prepare for Christ’s advent.

Leader:  Come with your joys and sorrows, laughter and tears.  There is a place for you in the company of seekers.

People:  We thank God for our acceptance in the church.  We rejoice to offer the love of Christ to others.

Leader:  We are partners in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Claim anew today this opportunity and responsibility.

People:  We are glad God is doing great things among us.  We want to rejoin ourselves to God’s work in the world.

Lighting of the Second Advent Candle    Dennis & Darlene Gallahan

Reader: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old...  And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins. God chooses the most unlikely messengers a desert wild-man dressed in animal skins and eating locusts and wild honey, a poor shepherd, shunned by polite society, keeping silent watch in the fields, or

today perhaps a school teacher, a waitress, a plumber, a laborer, or even a ... child.  Jesus comes, not just to those of us in our community, but even to those throughout the world. Jesus comes to us in the words of a preacher and in the song of a choir, but also in the siren of an ambulance, in a letter opened in a prison cell, in a visit to a nursing home, and in the smile - or cry - of a child.  (Light the first and second candles.)

People:  Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Women’s Bible Study

If hearing God has seemed challenging, this study is for you! Join us as Bible Study teacher, Priscilla Shirer, invites us to explore a more intimate relationship with Him, one that can make hearing Him - His will, His heart, and His voice - your ongoing experience. Discover how you can listen with greater confidence, clarity, and discernment.  “Discerning the Voice of God: How to Recognize When God Speaks” is a 7 week dvd/workbook study that will give us daily opportunities to:

* More deeply understand the Holy Spirit’s role in your life

* Differentiate His voice from imposter’s voices, even your own

* Glimpse His guidance in your everyday life

* Grow consistently in obedience, surrender, stillness, and humility

The study will be held on Friday mornings at 9:15am beginning September 28th at the home of Christine Braxton. Workbooks are available at Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Central Park for $13. Please note that if you order online, make sure you order the Revised & Expanded version which is white with gold lettering.  If you would like to join us or have any questions, please contact Christine Braxton
